A new body has been formed to represent the interests of the essential minerals industry in the UK. The UK Mineral Industries Group (UKMIG) brings together the organisations responsible for the extraction, processing and supply of the minerals that underpin modern life — from the materials used to build homes and infrastructure, to those supporting manufacturing, energy and agriculture.

Its founding partners include the trade associations representing key mineral sectors, including construction aggregates, industrial minerals, clays and ceramics, and underground mining (metals and coal). Together, these sectors account for more than 99% of UK minerals and mineral products by tonnage.

UKMIG has been established to promote the vital role of minerals in the economy and society, advocate for sustainable and secure supply, and provide a shared forum for collaboration across the industry.

The new Group inherits this role from the CBI Minerals Group, building on its legacy of coordinating cross-sector work and representing the collective interests of the UK’s minerals industry at a national level.

By uniting the country’s major mineral trade associations, UKMIG aims to ensure that the industry’s voice continues to be heard in policy discussions, supporting future growth, nature recovery, and the transition to net zero.
